Cinnamon Apple Butter Recipe
Throughout the year, I have a mental list of staple recipes and treats that I enjoy making during certain times of the year. For fall, this list starts to grow. I am always inspired by the impending holidays, and nothing gives me more joy than making edible gifts for friends and family. Since Thanksgiving arrives early this year (October 14th for all you Canadians), I am taking advantage of the extra time to go full fledge into holiday mode. Kicking off the season, I made my favorite slow-cooker Cinnamon Apple Butter Recipe.
Going back to edible gift giving, I must be honest. I first started baking in college- gifting mini, personalized cakes to my roommates for Christmas. Since then, I have always made candies, compotes, and caramels to share. However, if I really think about, I am not sure if this is because I just loooove giving, or I am drawn to these types of recipes and don't know what to do with all of the leftovers.
If you didn't know already, I absolutely love my slow cooker. I've used it to make dinners since I had a desk job (not that's a looong time ago, eh?). It was not until a couple years ago that I figure out how to use it for sweet recipes in addition to savory. One of my first sweet recipes that I made with the slow cooker was Apple Butter. Not only does it get the house smelling amazing, the recipe is so easy and the results are fabulous. Really, most of the work is done for you. I've seen a lot of apple butter recipes calling for tons of sugar and unnecessary ingredients. This recipe has few ingredients to really let the natural flavors shine. So, at the beginning of fall, I always make a big batch of sweet, smooth apple butter. And since it is fresh, without preservatives (and there is no way I can finish it all off before it turns on my), I jar it up to give to friends and family to enjoy.
- I typically use sweet apples like Pink Lady, Gala, or Fuji apples. However, I do enjoy throwing in a few tart apples every now and then.
- Serve apple butter for breakfast on toast, waffles, muffins, or stirred into plain yogurt.
- Serve apple butter for dessert topped on ice cream!
